How To Style Tank Tops
The humble women’s gym tank top is one of the most versatile pieces you’ll have in your athleisure wardrobe. Whether light and floaty or cropped and fitted, these tank tops for women are made to be thrown on at a moment’s notice.
For an everyday look that oozes athleisure vibes, style a white sports exercise tank top with some classic high-rise leggings. Go bold on the bottom with pattern and colour, or keep it sophisticated in black.
Ideal for layering, women’s workout tank tops works well below sweaters - when the temperature rises, simply sling it around your shoulders for a casual, preppy look.
Why Are Tank Tops Called Tank Tops?
Tank tops are named after a swimming-costume of the early 1900s called tank suits. Worn by the British Olympic swimming team, they looked like a gym vest at the top, with an extra layer of fabric around the hips.
Over the years as tastes changed and the general public accepted the swimsuit, it lost its bottom half and transformed into what we know today as the women's exercise tank top.
